For the Anniversary of Professor Valentina Nikolaevna Olesova

On March 5, 2024, Olesova Valentina Nikolaevna, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, First Vice‑rector and Head of the Department of Dentistry of the Biomedical University of Innovation and Continuing Education of the A.I. Burnazyan FMBC of Russia, Chief Freelance Specialist–Expert in Dentistry of the FMBA, celebrated her 75th anniversary Russia.
After studying at secondary school, V.N. Olesova in 1965 entered the Faculty of Dentistry of the Kemerovo Medical Institute, from which she graduated in 1971. While studying in graduate school at the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry, she completed and in 1986 successfully defended her dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic “Experimental clinical and biomechanical justification of the choice of an implant in orthopedic dentistry clinic”. In 1981 . in connection with the organization of the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Kemerovo Medical Institute, she received an offer to become an assistant at the department, and in 1986 – the head of this department.

In 1993, V.N. Olesova defended her dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on an urgent topic: “Complex methods of prosthetic bed formation using implants in the clinic of orthopedic dentistry”. In the same year, Valentina Nikolaevna was appointed Chief physician of the Clinical Center of Dentistry of the FMBA of Russia and Head of the Department of Clinical Dentistry and Implantology of the Institute of Advanced Training of the FMBA of Russia. In 1999, she was awarded the academic title of professor.
For a quarter of a century, Valentina Nikolaevna headed the Clinical Center of Dentistry of the FMBA of Russia. Her qualities, such as the ability to set and achieve goals, solve the most difficult tasks together with the team, and implement the planned plans with perseverance and perseverance, made it possible to develop and effectively implement many scientific projects in the field of dentistry. From 2014 to the present, V.N. Olesova has been the head of the Department of Dentistry of the Biomedical University of Innovation and Continuing Education of the A.I. Burnazyan FMBC of the FMBA of Russia. During the leadership of the department, Valentina Nikolaevna has gained a well-deserved reputation among researchers and practicing dentists. The new era in healthcare and education dictates the need to introduce new educational standards, which requires the development of innovative lecture courses, the creation and implementation of electronic resources for residents and dentists. Professor Olesova V.N. and the staff of the department have preserved traditions and developed new forms of postgraduate education for dentists, including in the electronic format of organizing educational activities. Over the past 5 years alone, 378 residents and 10 graduate students have been trained at the department under the guidance of Valentina Nikolaevna.

The main area of scientific research of V.N. Olesova is the study of the dental status of workers with harmful and dangerous working conditions, orthopedic treatment using dental implants. For a series of works on high-tech mathematical modeling of the maxillofacial region, she was awarded the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science. Having been the chief dentist of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency for many years, Valentina Nikolaevna has achieved significant success in organizing dental medical examinations of nuclear industry workers.
V.N. Olesova is the author of more than 300 publications, including 25 monographs, 15 doctoral and 82 PhD theses have been defended under her leadership. For her high professionalism, depth of clinical thinking, and impeccable human qualities, she is respected and loved by both colleagues and patients. Valentina Nikolaevna has reached the heights of professional excellence.
V.N. Olesova is the editor-in-chief and a regular author of publications in the journals of the Higher Attestation Commission “Russian Dental Journal” and “Russian Bulletin of Dental Implantology”, deputy editor-in-chief of the journal “Clinical Bulletin of the A.I. Burnazyan FMBC”, as well as a member of the editorial board of the journals “Dentistry” and “Clinical Dentistry”. Valentina Nikolaevna has been a member of the specialized Commission on dentistry of the Expert Council in the field of healthcare of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for many years. Since the organization of the Russian Association of Dental Implantology at the Dental Association of Russia, V.N. Olesova became vice-president, and in 2008 was elected its president.
Since 2020, Professor V.N. Olesova has been the First Vice-Rector of the Medical and Biological University of Innovation and Continuing Education of the Burnazyan Federal Medical Research Center. During this time, significant transformations have taken place in the educational and scientific fields: advanced teaching methods, including distance learning technologies, are being actively introduced into teaching practice, the publication activity of the teaching staff has increased significantly, and the number of defended dissertations. V.N. Olesov’s personal example inspires the teaching staff of the University to mentor. Olesova has raised a galaxy of young doctors and scientists who currently work not only in medicine, but also follow a pedagogical path. On the initiative of Valentina Nikolaevna, the University annually holds a competition for the best teacher-mentor. In 2023, according to the results of the competition, the teacher of the Department of Dentistry, a former resident and student of V.N. Olesova, became the winner.

Under the supervision of V.N. Olesova, the Department of Corporate Culture and Development has been established and operates at the University of Medicine and Biology, whose main task is mentoring and educational work with young people from among residents and graduate students. About 400 young specialists studying at the University are involved in the activities of youth public associations every year. Up to 50 professional, patriotic, sports and creative events are held annually with the direct participation of the first Vice-rector.
Valentina Nikolaevna is the curator of the Youth Council of the A.I. Burnazyan FMBC, providing comprehensive assistance to young doctors and scientists of the Center in their professional development, increasing their social activity and forming a civic position. Setting the direction vector of youth policy, V.N. Olesova instructs young specialists on the path of professional, intellectual and moral development.
For her services in scientific, pedagogical, therapeutic and diagnostic activities, the introduction of research results into the practice of domestic healthcare, as well as for the development of dental science and its advanced areas, V.N. Olesova was awarded a Diploma of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Russian Federation Award in the field of science, the Golden Cross of the FMBA of Russia; has the Honorary title “Honored Dentist”.
Valentina Nikolaevna Olesova celebrates her anniversary with great long-term plans and scientific ideas, maintaining an active lifestyle, remaining a wise and talented leader. The breadth of scientific horizons, rich clinical experience and pedagogical talent allowed Professor V.N. Olesova to become an authority not only among colleagues in Russia, but also far beyond the borders of the country. At the same time, Valentina Nikolaevna always remains responsive and ready to help those who need this help and support.
