Abstract
Aerobic and anaerobic capacity are key components of physical fitness in sports. They are particularly important in game disciplines that require a mixed type of energy supply. The characteristics of the aerobic-anaerobic profile in young ice hockey players of different playing positions have not been sufficiently studied. The aim of this study was to identify differences in aerobic and anaerobic capacity indicators among young ice hockey players aged 16 – 20 years, depending on their playing specialization. Study participants performed an incremental exhaustive exercise test on a Monark 894e cycle ergometer. Power output at the aerobic and anaerobic thresholds, maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂max), and maximal anaerobic power (MAP) were measured. Data were processed using SPSS 27 software. The results showed that goaltenders were taller than forwards and demonstrated the lowest values for relative power at the aerobic threshold, VO₂max, and maximal anaerobic power. No significant differences were found between defensemen and forwards.
Keywords: maximal oxygen uptake, maximal anaerobic power, aerobic and anaerobic capacity, young ice hockey players, playing position
