Abstract

Nature-inspired technologies are methodological approaches that replicate the mechanisms and structures of living systems. They are increasingly playing a significant role in the training of high-level athletes. The purpose of this review is to systematize scientific data on the effectiveness of nature-inspired (biomimetic, bionic, and ecophysiological) technologies for enhancing athletes’ functional readiness across key parameters: endurance, speed-strength characteristics, thermoregulation, and recovery rate. The methodological basis was a systematic search of sources in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science SPORTDiscus, elibrary, and Cyberleninka databases for the period 2010 – 2024, using pre-developed inclusion and quality assessment criteria. The final analysis included 73 primary studies and 14 review papers. Data synthesis revealed that biomimetic sportswear (primarily swimsuits), exoskeletal devices with bionic actuators, adaptive hypoxic training protocols, and nature-inspired recovery methods (cryotherapy, chronobiological approaches) demonstrate moderate to significant positive effects on target fitness indicators. However, there is evidence of a number of limitations to their widespread implementation: heterogeneity of the evidence base, health risks associated with the use of certain technologies, and unequal access to them. The practical significance of the review lies in its substantiation of the principles of safe and ethical integration of nature-inspired technologies into the training process, taking into account the individual characteristics of athletes.
