Abstract
Purpose: to present a unique clinical case of endometrioid adenofibroma localized in the spleen and its semiotics according to computed tomography.
Materials and methods: patient S., a 57-year-old female, was admitted to the clinic for surgical treatment of a cystic lesion in the spleen detected on outpatient computed tomography (CT). Recently, the patient had experienced pain in the left hypochondrium during physical exertion. As part of the preoperative workup, CT of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis with intravenous contrast confirmed the presence of a cystic lesion with septa and no contrast accumulation in the spleen, which was initially interpreted as a hydatid cyst. Laparoscopic splenectomy was performed electively. The final diagnosis of “endometrioid adenofibroma of the spleen” was established based on morphological and immunohistochemical examination.
Results: the presented clinical case is the first description in the world literature of an endometrioid adenofibroma localized in the spleen. The CT semiotics of this lesion are not specific and require differential diagnosis with other cystic lesions. The final diagnosis was established solely on the basis of histological and immunohistochemical examination.
Keywords: computed tomography, endometrioid adenofibroma, spleen
