Abstract
The organization of anti-doping in sports is constantly criticized by the sports community due to its low effectiveness. The annual reports of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) show that despite the increasing number of tests and laboratory studies, as well as the improvement of planning approaches and the inclusion of artificial intelligence in this process, less than 1% of violations are detected among the number of laboratory studies conducted. These results have led to the need to reevaluate the priorities of anti-doping policy, including the broader implementation of measures aimed at preventing violations of anti-doping rules.

The role of sports medicine specialists in conducting preventive work to prevent violations is extremely high. This area of anti-doping work is also constantly being improved. New approaches that were previously underestimated are emerging and being discussed. Initially, the doctor was assigned an important but modest role, which was limited to the timely and high-quality preparation of medical documents for requesting the therapeutic use of prohibited substances and methods, as well as influencing the athlete’s worldview to prevent the use of doping. However, WADA’s documents now emphasize the active involvement of sports medicine specialists in the development and implementation of anti-doping educational programs, as well as the psychological, ethical, and social aspects of anti-doping work. One of the consequences of the focus on doping control was the lack of funding for other areas of work, including educational programs and scientific research. All of WADA’s documents, including the WADA Code and international standards, were intended for use by anti-doping organizations (ADOs) and athletes.

After the adoption of the latest version of the WADA Code and the implementation of the International Standard for Education, the number of materials for doctors posted on the ADO websites has increased significantly, but these materials still focus primarily on organizational issues related to the work of sports medicine specialists and to a lesser extent on professional issues.

As the experience of sports medicine specialists from the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia has shown, professional assistance and consultations are in high demand. This work allows doctors to stay informed about the changes that occur regularly in the ADO documents, explains these changes, and helps them apply them in practice. It is possible to actively involve new employees who previously had no experience in anti-doping work in such events. Anti-doping work in sports, which focuses on sports medicine specialists, requires constant analysis and improvement of various aspects.
